A Very Anxious Feeling: Voices of Unrest in the American Experience - Catalog - Page 9
Our appreciation further extends to the Museum’s Board
of Trustees for their knowledge, guidance, and unwavering
support, as well as to our staff and volunteers for their
countless hours of work and endless dedication.
Finally, we thank Dr. Elda Stanco Downey as a lead community
advisor in helping us engage Spanish-speaking citizens of our
region to share their perspectives of the artwork and her
facilitation of the exhibition’s translation. Special thanks also
to students at Virginia Tech, a valued institutional partner, to
offer interpretive materials in Spanish.

The concept for A Very Anxious Feeling was developed
through the creative energies of the aforementioned Beth
Rudin DeWoody and Joanne Leonhardt Cassullo, as well as
our former Chief Curator and Deputy Director of Exhibitions
and Collections, Dr. Patrick Shaw Cable. We dedicate this
catalogue in memory of him. As a curator and art historian,
Patrick was a deep thinker, prolific writer, and empathetic
champion of artists. We follow in his footsteps and honor
him by bringing this exhibition and catalogue forward. Out
of these feelings of anxiety, we seek a sense of hope and
connection.
