Office as a Service
The difference between successful and
unsuccessful digital transformation often
lies in the finer details of human adoption
rather than technical implementation.
Google Strategy Consultant Lucy Adams
claims that digital is, “10 percent tech
and 90 percent human”, though to listen
to many other commentators will give
the impression it is 90 percent tech and
10 percent human. As a matter of fact,
digital means nothing without the people
bringing it to life because they choose how
to use digital technology.
Digital transformation is a huge
opportunity for positive change, and
getting there is nothing more than
applying new technologies to respond
better to people’s changing needs.
Thus, digital technology can simply be
the new means to an old end: Building
relationships and satisfying teams,
partners and customers. Most of the
time, new technologies like cloud services
connect people and bring them closer to
each other. Team members can constantly
communicate and stay updated even
whilst physically absent. Flexibility
and new living and working models
only became possible due to the digital
alternatives to pen and paper.
The image above shows workers taking
advantage of a concept called Office as a
Service, run by a company called Bespoke
in the heart of San Francisco, California.
It’s an interesting example because it
gives us a glimpse of what the modern
workplace and workplace culture are
beginning to look like. Dedicated, physical
offices have become anchor points in
our professional lives, rather than the
universal centres of our everyday work.
