This program focuses on broad, transferable skills, including an understanding of the heating, air-conditioning,
refrigeration and ventilation industry, and demonstrates elements of the industry such as planning,
management, 昀椀nance, technical and production skills, the underlying principles of technology, and health,
safety, and environmental issues. The purpose of this program is to prepare students to perform entry-level
HVAC maintenance and repair tasks in residential and commercial environments. This course is designed to
prepare students to pursue the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 Core and 608 Small Appliances
(Type 1) Certi昀椀cation. Students are eligible for an optional externship with a local employer after successful
course completion.
Certi昀椀cation Opportunities:
After completing this program, learners will have the option to take the leading national/industry-recognized
certi昀椀cation exam(s) essential to entry-level employment in this fast-growing 昀椀eld.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 Technician Certi昀椀cation
Optional Volunteer Externship Opportunity
Students who complete this program are eligible to participate in an optional volunteer externship opportunity
with a local company/agency/organization whose work aligns with this area of study in order to gain valuable
hands-on experience. As students progress through their eLearning program, an Externship Coordinator will
reach out to coordinate placement.
Note: Additional documentation including health records, immunizations, drug-screening, criminal background checks, etc. may
be required by the externship facility.
