LOW CARBON EMISSIONS STEEL
Using XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel and manufactured in an electric arc
furnace using 100% renewable electricity.
DECARBONISING STEELMAKING
XCarb® brings together ArcelorMittal’s reduced, low and zero-carbon products and steelmaking
activities, as well as wider initiatives and green innovation projects, into a single effort focused
on achieving demonstrable progress towards net zero steel.
REDUCED CO2
By using high levels of scrap steel and 100% renewable electricity, XCarb® recycled and
renewably produced cold-rolled steel has a CO₂ footprint of approximately 800kg of CO2e
per tonne of finished steel. This is a 66% reduction compared with the same product made
via the conventional steelmaking route.
100% CERTIFIED
All the electricity comes from renewable sources (assured via ‘Guarantee of origin’) and the
steel is manufactured using very high levels of scrap steel.
