Upstream Transportation and Distribution
This subcategory accounts for all deliveries of
goods to STEFFCA’s facilities. The calculation of this
subcategory was carried out by a third party, namely
the transportation company Blue Water Shipping. A
total amount of emissions equal to 32.02 tonnes of
CO2e was estimated to correspond to 90% of the
upstream transportation and distribution. The calculations considered both the weight and the distance
travelled, calculating a total of 3.49 million ton-kilometers (tkm).
The last 10% corresponds to transportation services
of value equal to 440.000 DKK and were calculated
with the spend-based method. Therefore, the total
emissions of this category are equal to 42,091 kg of
CO2e.
The emissions, tonne-km and intensity per transport
mode are presented in the diagrams. Upstream T&D
emissions have decreased by an impressive 93% in
comparison to 2022. This result also highlights the
importance of collaborating with transportation partners that commit to sustainable practices and offer

environmental data on the emissions of each delivery, as it can potentially result to more precise calculations and help to avoid the use of generic emission
factors that do not re昀氀ect the actual emissions. The
reduced ton-kilometers (tkm) compared to 2022,
also played a signi昀椀cant part in this decrease.
Downstream Transportation and Distribution
Emission arising from the transportation of deliveries from STEFFCA facilities to third parties were
included in the calculation of the footprint from the
downstream transportation. The calculations considered both the weight and the distance travelled,
calculating a total of 2.95 million tkm. Online tools
were used to approximate the distance travelled in
the sea, air or road, while the emission factors used
were from EEA and Climatiq. The total emissions
were equal to 129 tonnes CO2e. This was the 昀椀rst
year, where each individual delivery was split into
boat, truck as well as air transportation, increasing
the total emissisons from this category.
