Scheme - clarification of policy
Calls often involve long engagements with
issues, with some calls extending to 45 minutes
on a regular basis. We are often contacted by
other agencies such as Citizens Information for
clarification on particular issues. Issues such as
the example given can result in advocacy that
can last months and even years.
Supports for non DDAI Members:
We do not limit our information support to
members. The general public often consult the
DDAI on a variety of matters related to disability.
Discussions arise with medical practitioners on
driving services for clients and DDAI will provide
information on the most practical service for the
disabled person.
Information and Advice
Supports for Members:
The bulk of the information we provide is
generally related to driving, although we do
engage in other areas in relation to disability, if
we have the knowledge to contribute positively.
Where issues are not part of our core knowledge
or competence we endeavour to direct our
members to the appropriate source. While much
of the information we can provide is made
available to the public at large, members are
afforded a higher level of engagement and detail.
Much of our engagement with Disabled Drivers
and Passengers is in relation to the process of
vehicle purchase and vehicle adaptation. We
can explore the variety of vehicle adaptations
and their appropriate application, as well as the
availability of the adaptations in Ireland and
abroad. Many discussions revolve around the
Disabled Drivers & Disabled Passengers Tax
Relief Scheme (DD&DP-TRS) and the statutory
compliance necessary when adapting a vehicle.
We monitor news media and Dáil business on
a daily basis to keep abreast of issues that may
impact on our members. Relevant news items
are posted on our website newsfeed while
information on Government policy or legislation
of interest is posted on Social Media.
Property owners and tenants, employers and
employees regularly call for information on their
rights and responsibilities in relation to disabled
parking provision.
There are multiple other subjects related to
disability from persons with a disability and
the general public which our head office does
its best to address or direct to the appropriate
source.
We also provide limited information services
through the Shopmobility network.
The bulk of the information
we provide is generally
related to driving, although
we do engage in other areas
in relation to disability, if
we have the knowledge to
contribute positively.
