SERVICES
Shopmobility
Shopmobility provides a free loan scheme
service of manual wheelchairs, powered
wheelchairs, and mobility scooters to
people with limited mobility for use within
Dundrum Town Centre, Blanchardstown
Shopping Centre, Liffey Valley Shopping
Centre and Whitewater Shopping Centre
in Newbridge, Co. Kildare.
The services are supported by the centres
through a unit within the centre and financial
support. The shops generate some income from
the short term rental of wheelchairs and mobility
scooters , sales of mobility aids, and donations,
but the greater part of the cost of providing the
service is borne by the DDAI. The services are
10
used by over 3,000 members annually and are
very popular with the user group. Other than the
direct benefit to the service users, the services
set a standard for access and mobility for all
shopping areas.
Shopmobility represents the largest
disbursement made by DDAI. There are
currently 11 full-time and part-time staff
working in Shopmobility centres.
