Serving Our Community’s
Most Vulnerable Pets and Their People
Undoubtedly, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our community’s pets and their people.
For many organizations, including the SPCA of Texas, 2021 was more challenging than 2020.
We knew we needed to continue providing exceptional care for our community’s most
vulnerable pets during these trying times. What inspired us the most was that we didn’t
have to do it alone.
The overwhelming response and support from the community, and friends like you, helped us
navigate the pandemic to ensure that sick, injured and abused animals received the care they
needed most. We adapted our adoption protocols to ensure animals searching for their
forever homes found them. We developed new opportunities for 921 of our animals to find
homes in other parts of the country. And, many of you stepped up to foster pets (more than
600 of you), volunteer onsite, and financially support our important work.
But the truth is, COVID-19 has dramatically impacted the SPCA of Texas and placed a great
strain on our important work with decreased volunteerism, increased costs, and a greater
need for community assistance programs. Due to ongoing staffing shortages and lost revenue,
we were forced to keep the Myron K. Martin Spay/Neuter and Veterinary Care Clinic closed
for much of the year, and our door-to-door outreach encouraging pet wellness was halted for
COVID-19 safety precautions. Thankfully, we were able to offer free community pet vaccination
clinics in the fall, serving 2,464 pets.
Throughout the pandemic, our neighbors faced significant challenges in caring for their pets.
We know that the best place for an animal is in its loving home, and we were honored
to help keep 1,602 families together through services provided by our Russell H. Perry Pet
Resource Center (Perry PRC). The SPCA of Texas aims to increase the reach of the Perry PRC in
2022, with the belief that finances should never be a reason for a family to part with their pet.
Through all the uncertainty, your support has enabled us to be here for every animal who
needs us no matter what happens in the world around us. We’re there for animals and the
people who love them because you are there for us. We simply cannot thank you enough.
