PROJECT 2:
TANZANIA TREES - PLANTING
FOREST GARDENS
Planting partner: Trees for the future
Tanzania is an east African country
and located just south of the Equator,
which is home to around 60 million
people. It is widely known for its popular
tourist spots, which include the yearly
wildebeest migration in the Serengeti
and Africa's tallest mountain, Mount
Kilimanjaro.
It is also home to several of the world’s
most threatened species on the Red
List, including the kipunji monkey,
Matilda’s horned viper, and the Amani
forest frog. This illustrates how crucial
it is to preserve Tanzania's high level of
biodiversity, which is sadly declining. A
few of the main factors exacerbating
these problems are deforestation,
overexploitation, and land degradation.
For this reason, it is essential that
action be done to mitigate Tanzania's
biodiversity risks and support replanting
initiatives.
Through initiatives like Ecologi and
SMI’s Life on Land, Trees for the Future
supports local communities in enhancing
their livelihoods by providing training
and assistance with tree planting,
offering loans for trees and vegetable
seeds, and supplying tools and tree sacs
for planting.
