His workis highly sought after.Since leaving the Royal Academy Schools in 1989, MichaelCorkrey has lived and worked in London. In his previous artistic incarnation, as a painter from life of nudes and portraits,Michael won the prestigious Hunting Art Prize and has paintedportraits of sitters as diverse as Earl Spencer; the Spectator‘low-life’ columnist Jeffrey Bernard; MPs and High Court Judges. Eschewing the more conventional and often generalizedforms of seascape painting, Corkrey focuses instead on the specific, arrested moments of the sea at its most extreme. Instantsnormally lost in a split-second, but which are transformed intopowerful and epic images of haunting beauty that transport theviewer into mysterious and rhapsodic visions of the sea.In his wonderful recent series of pillow and leaf studies ,Corkery captures a portrait of objects that haunt our memory ,as we if witnessing and partaking in the ritual of time passing.Pillow number 420 x 30 cm,2021
