Alexandra Buhl
Alexandra Buhl have been dividing her time between personal
art projects and commercial work, filming and editing videos and
freelancing as a photographer in London and Copenhagen.
Buhl is interested in capturing and communicating stories from
everyday life and the culture which surrounds us.
Her style is often intimate and diaristic, using a combination of
documentary and constructed material - video, sound, photography and digital collage - to examine the cross-field of language
and our embodied, physical meeting with the world around us.
For years Alexandra Buhl has been conjuring faces and figures
onto the tiles of her bathroom wall, using strands of her hair that
have fallen out whilst showering.
At some point during 2014 Buhl started sharing the hair drawings on her Instagram account @alexb.
The first hair drawing artbooks were created in April 2018 in collaboration with Malene Lerager of Co’libri Bookbindery. Only two
books were made. Sized 105 x 105mm , the books contain 33 hair
drawings printed on archival paper (acid free/cotton rag). The
books were hand bound with Buhl’s hair and original tiles from
her bathroom. Buhl also created unique hair drawings on the
cover, attaching hair to the front tile. The book won the Danish
Bookdesign Prize for best handbound book and was exhibited at
The Black Diamond of the Royal Library of Denmark in June/August 2018 and at Bogforum during 26-28th Oct 2018.
A limited edition of 20, sized 130 x 130mm (5.11 x 5.11 inches),
Hair Drawings II contain 62 Hair Drawings, printed on
high quality archival paper and bound in raw gray cardboard with
gold embossing, by Co’libri Bookbindery. All artbooks are signed
and numbered by her.
