Inclusion and Diversity
Accountability Consortium
As 2018 dawned, a determined group of companies and organizations
decided to stop admiring a decades-old issue and change the industry. They
joined IDAC, the first measurement-based initiative designed to leverage data in
the fight for greater inclusion across marketing, media and tech. The companies
committed to three actions:
• Participate in the Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index
application (a unit of Working Mother Media)
• Engage in roundtable conversations to confront challenges and break
through barriers
• Walk the talk by delivering inclusive corporate policies and
practices.
The Consortium participants were not looking for accolades, they were looking
for a positive path forward. Their determination was relentless, the dialogue was
spirited, and the work was hard.
This booklet shares some of the results from the first Consortium DBP Index
study, as well as some additional information, words and ideas that we hope will
inspire others to action.
The 2018 Best Practices Diversity Inclusion Index Reporting Methodology
The Diversity Best Practices Inclusion Index provides information to help
organizations understand gaps in demographic representation, It also provides
a strategic road-map to drive internal change and find/implement Diversity and
Inclusion (D&I) solutions. This year, the number of participants more than
doubled, with 124 sharing their data across industries. At least 12 organizations
were measured in the Advertising, Media and Tech (AMT) and Consumer
Packaged Goods (CPG) segment report.
The most critical findings from this year’s index reveal that the high scoring
organizations have implemented more best practices around recruitment and
talent development, but workforce demographics remain fairly stagnant,
especially at higher levels. That can be attributed to fewer organizations
applying strong measures of accountability for diversity results and some critical
workforce development best practices still not being implemented by the
majority of organizations.
An index, unlike a list, does not have a set number of organizations to
recognize. Instead, a threshold percentage is a set, and any participant meeting
that percentage (or beating it), qualifies for the index. The Working Mother
Research Institute determined that organizations scoring 65 percent and
above should be recognized for their high-quality diversity and inclusion work
and named them Diversity Best Practices Inclusions Index organizations.
The journey has only begun, but the bold IDAC companies have proven
the notion that it is only what gets measured that gets done.
