Shelton School works with each child as
an individual because not all great minds
think alike or learn alike. Through a
careful balance of academics, structure,
discipline and nurturing remediation,
Shelton students are continuously
engaged in the learning process.
Customized Education
At Shelton, we understand that not all learning differences are the same.
Whether it is a learning difference with math, reading, oral language or
attentional difficulties, we work to create an academic program
specifically tailored to the student's needs.
From preschool through 12th grade, students receive specialized
instruction and remediation in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere.
Our classes are small, with an average class size of 10 and a teacher to
student ratio of 1:6. Exceptional faculty and personalized attention
create a highly structured learning environment that reduces
distractions and increases instruction. In the classroom, a coordinated
multisensory curriculum develops skills in reading, writing, spelling,
speaking, listening and math, all necessary for students to gain, retain
and express information.
At Shelton, we work with the student
and the family to create:
•
•
•
•
•
Individualized action plans for intervention
A curriculum that emphasizes academics and self-esteem
A social skills curriculum that spans all grade levels
A division-specific organizational and study skills program
Self-advocacy skills
A Learning
Organization
Shelton focuses on the student.
In fact, we like to say, “We
teach students, not subjects.”
Our teachers are highly trained
with specific expertise and
experience in teaching students
with learning differences. Of
the 284 faculty and staff, more
than half hold advanced
degrees. Shelton faculty are
caring, dedicated and committed to helping our students
reach their full potential.
“I am grateful for
the teachers
who believed in me."
