A Shelton education goes beyond academics. We provide a full range of
experiences in academics, fine arts, athletics and technology in order to
cultivate the unique gifts and talents of the creative, intelligent,
progressive and resilient students that Shelton serves.
Opportunity
At Shelton, we offer opportunities that foster a greater understanding of the world — from arts, drama, music and sports
to community service, character building and volunteer opportunities. Through carefully planned, successful
experiences, students increase academic skills, improve social cognition, gain leadership skills, participate in
extracurricular activities and acquire greater appreciation for the people and community around them.
Shelton students can be found onstage rehearsing their roles in the play or on the field competing in football, baseball,
basketball, volleyball, soccer or track. They are in the community playing bingo with residents at a nearby retirement
center, at the local food bank, organizing canned goods for the holiday season or among friends encouraging others to
support literacy through book drives. In short, Shelton students are well-rounded world citizens.
Comprehensive Services
Shelton offers comprehensive services. We are not only the largest school for learning differences, we are also a national
resource center for the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, as well as schools across the nation and world. The four business
entities of Shelton include a school, a Speech, Language and Hearing Center, an Evaluation Center and an Outreach and
Training Center. This revolutionary structure empowers the students and their families who live with learning differences.
“Learning disabilities (LD) are not a prescription for failure. With the right kinds of instruction, g
there are no limits to what individuals with LD can achieve.”
