ELEMENTARY COURSE
CURRICULUMS
These rigorous courses offer an in-depth study of Elementary Montessori (ages 6-12).
These comprehensive courses include lectures, demonstrations, classroom observations,
small group projects, manual and material creation, and research.
ELEMENTARY I
6-9 YEARS OF AGE
This course lays the foundation for working with elementary children in a Montessori environment,
placing the academic emphasis on lessons and practices appropriate to children ages 6-9. This is
a MACTE accredited, AMS affiliated course.
The Hybrid Breakdown:
Synchronous: 116 Hours
Adult Learners attend Zoom sessions
with the instructor.
Asynchronous: 84 Hours
Adult Learners work through the
Canvas modules independently.
In-Residence: 152 Hours
Adult Learners are at the Shelton
School with the instructor.
Coursework: 374 Hours
(Includes 22 Self-Paced Study Hours)

Practicum: 1,080 Hours
A nine-month practicum provides the adult
learner with the opportunity to practice the
Montessori philosophy and lessons under the
guidance of an experienced instructor/mentor at
a school of your choice, which is approved by
SMT. Research and observation skills are honed
during a yearlong case study of three students.

Manuals
Field consultant visits during practicum
Access to the online modules on Canvas
The tuition includes the association fees for AMS
and MACTE and a one-year subscription to the
virtual video presentations. Scholarships are
available from Shelton and AMS.
