Pump Care In Cold Weather
Beat the freeze
Things to do
✔ Ensure the ignition is switched off
✔ Drain the pump volute overnight
via the drain taps to stop water
freezing inside the pump (volutes
can crack if water is allowed to
freeze in them)
Things NOT to do
✘ If the pump has frozen, do not
light fires underneath to defrost
it!
✘ Do not keep trying to start the
pump as you may cause more
damage

pumps to defrost or fitters to
arrive
