Enterprise and supplier development activities
SOUTH AFRICA
400 SMMEs received development support with many
graduating from an Enterprise Development to Supplier
Development path with revenue growth. To date through
Sasol For Good, over 119 employee volunteering hours have
been spent by Sasol employees who provided technical
business support to SMMEs.
Sasol Siyakha Trust continues to accelerate SMME
growth by providing loans to Black-owned suppliers,
enterprises and entrepreneurs.
Identification of sustainable opportunities across various
supply chain categories have delivered 143 opportunities/
contracts since inception, with a spend of R47 776 220 in
Sasolburg, R391 803 277 in Secunda and R745 500 876 in our
extended fenceline communities.
Our spend with local (Secunda and Sasolburg) Black-owned
companies increased from R8,2 billion in 2019 to
R10,5 billion in 2020.
Satellite Operations spent R474,4 million with Blackowned suppliers in different services across South Africa.
A technical accreditation handbook has been
developed to enable SMME suppliers to successfully prepare
and participate in the accreditation processes.
Our suppliers’ loan book provided funding of
R488,7 million against a target of R522 million for
Supplier Development.
We developed a local Black supplier to produce over
300 000 litres of sanitiser which was distributed to
hospitals, schools, communities and local NGOs to assist
them to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infections.
NORTH AMERICA
More than 615 community members,
some with women and minority-owned
businesses, attended 25 Sasol-supported
certification workshops. This resulted in more
than US$2,7 million in revenue and 137 jobs
created.
MOZAMBIQUE
In
a programme that commenced over three
years ago, 60 beneficiaries are
established entrepreneurs through Sasol’s
Asset Based Community Development
programme in Chitsotso, Mangungumete
and Maimelane communities. The
programme upskilled the youth in food
security, farming methods for chicken and
eggs production and horticulture.
Our dedicated programme focused on
including smaller enterprises into our supply
chain.
In Mozambique we reached 1 173
suppliers.
More opportunities will be allocated to SMMEs over
the next two to three years.
Total spend with Black-owned suppliers increased to
R26,3 billion against a target of R21,8 billion.
