Infrastructure development
Towns and cities contend with increasing
population which places additional pressure
on public services and infrastructure. In
support of local government, Sasol eliminated
the risk of sewer pollution that would have
negatively affected the environment by
constructing four pump stations in the
Govan Mbeki Local Municipality town of
Kinross. 25 people were employed in
the project, 15 were initially unskilled, six of
whom were women.

opportunities were generated by
this project.

electricity distribution in the community.
To make travelling safer, various roads in
Sasolburg, including a portion of the R59,
were rehabilitated. Construction work was
undertaken by a local B-BBEE principal
contractor and benefitted four other local
SMMEs.
38 new jobs were created and
others retained through extended
maintenance.
Health and wellness
4 500 community members in Govan Mbeki Local
Municipality accessed health services during the HIV/Aids
awareness and anti-retroviral treatment campaigns.
Over
90 jobs were created to support these initiatives.
the Fezile Dabi District, 76 448 people were reached
through our HIV/Aids and tuberculosis (TB) awareness, testing
and screening campaign which included schools and prisons in
the area. This was done in partnership with the Free State
Department of Health, Epilepsy South Africa and a local HIV/
Aids non-government organisation.
