Effectively managing uncertainties to unlock
the potential benefits of opportunities
Our operating reality has undergone dramatic changes
in recent years including the impact of the onset and
end of the pandemic. While we work to mitigate those
issues that we can control, we also seek to leverage
the opportunities linked to each risk.
In the short to medium term, we expect elevated levels
of uncertainty to persist: economic growth across the
globe and in South Africa is likely to remain weak; the
rand is expected to continue to be volatile; moves in
the crude oil price are largely unpredictable; margins
on commodity chemicals will stay under pressure; and
the seasonal swings in gas and coal prices are likely to
remain a feature of our operating context.
Moreover, we will need to continue appraising our
stakeholders’ diverse expectations.
