SASOL CI MANUAL
6. Our imagery – Illustration
Illustrations don’t only help to tell the story that is being communicated, but also create a tone and
energy that is specifically Sasol. Our illustration style is unique to Sasol and no other style can be used.

Landscapes and structures
Angular shapes
The three basic shapes are still used
to construct illustrations but are
incorporated to create hard lines
and angles. Round shapes may be
used, but the overall look of an
illustration needs to be angular.
Safety
As we are committed to zero harm, all safety procedures, equipment and apparel
must be accurate when being illustrated.
Logo
The correct Sasol logo must appear on all equipment and apparel.

Overarching principles for simple
and complex illustrations:
Construction: People
Construction: Landscapes and structures
When illustrating people, a unique character and
personality must come through. Capture emotion
through facial expressions and the individual nature
of a character through hairstyles, apparel and jewellery.
Illustrations must represent the diversity of the region
they are depicting. Subtle details may be added or
subtracted but the illustration style should not be altered.
When creating structures or objects, it is acceptable to
create basic perspectives to add depth to the illustration.
Please note that these structures and shapes should
not be the focal point in an illustration but should rather
serve to enrich the illustration as background details.
When creating landscapes, depth may be created by
the inclusion of a foreground, middleground and
background plane.
