Sister Gertrude Morgan: The Mystic of New Orleans - Book - Page 54
I eventually settled down as the live-in nurse
and housemaid for Jennie Johnson.
Later after she passed away, Larry and Allen bought me her
house in the Lower Ninth Ward at 5444 Dorgenois Street.
I called it the Everlasting Gospel Mission and
painted a sign to hang out front.
The name comes from Revelation 14:6 which says,
“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the
everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth,
and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.”
I greeted folks from my front porch, welcoming visitors inside to
meet Little Dada and receive the Word.
Sometimes I made rhythm with just two
sticks and a pot cover in my hands.
If you’ve got the Holy Ghost inside you, anything can become a drum!
