Bushy Lake Eco-Cultural Community Celebration
On Saturday, April 29, 2023 the university celebrated years
of work on the Bushy Lake habitat by Michelle Stevens
(ENVS) with a celebration that included tours, tabling, and
community. With the help of grants, Dr. Stevens and her
students have collaborated with Sacramento County Parks
and Recreation since 2015 to build fire-resilient restoration
throughout the habitat. Despite these efforts, another fire
tore through the area in June 2021 and then-President Robert
Nelsen offered an Anchor Grant for the students to rebuild
and replant the habitat. Along with this support, the project
also received $350,000 in funding from the California Wildlife
Conservation Board.
