Student Success Update
M
irroring campus trends in repopulation emerging from the
COVID-19 pandemic, we are finding increasing numbers of students
wanting in-person appointments and drop-in visits (although remote
service options continue to be the most popular). Entering its 7th year
of operations, the SSIS Student Success Center (SSC) continues to advise
our students towards timely degree progress, graduation, and future
plans. We are finding that students are experiencing significant personal,
financial, medical, and psychological hardships that require our staff
to provide holistic advising and connections to our campus partners
who offer various support services. The dedicated work of our SSC staff
members and our SSIS Faculty Fellows for Student Success resulted in
a 13% increase in advising contacts over the past year. This work has
contributed to milestone achievements in graduation rates, with SSIS
surpassing University averages and campus targets under the Graduation
Initiative 2025. We look forward to the new academic year when we will
be increasing our focus on proactive campaigns to support recruitment,
enrollment, retention, and students’ sense of belonging.
