Overall, Blue Arrow and its temporary workforce emerged as essential contributors
to local communities’ resilience during the COVID-19 crisis. They actively
participated in various initiatives to mitigate the pandemic’s impact and support the
recovery process for individuals, communities, organisations, and public services.
Capita urgently required 2,156
temporary workers, primarily
Call Handlers, to support
a government and pandemicrelated contract during the
COVID-19 pandemic. Despite
challenges posed by a national
lockdown and remote work
requirements, Blue Arrow
successfully conducted a
large-scale recruitment
campaign. Over 10,000
applications were processed,
and 1,549 quali昀椀ed temporary
workers were quickly onboarded
within 15 days. This ef昀椀cient
solution met Capita’s immediate
staf昀椀ng needs and showcased
the strong partnership between
Capita and Blue Arrow.
During the UK’s 昀椀rst lockdown
Christmas, Blue Arrow
provided 700 temporary
drivers to meet the 30%
increased demand for
postal and courier services.
Despite the challenges of the
pandemic, they achieved a
98.5% ful昀椀lment rate within a
few weeks by leveraging their
branch network and advanced
technology. They conducted all
recruitment processes online
to address staf昀椀ng needs while
adhering to pandemic-related
restrictions.
A leading FM and Construction
organisation urgently needed
over 400 cleaners for the
NHS Nightingale Hospital
North West in Manchester.
Blue Arrow implemented
a recruitment solution that
provided 96 quali昀椀ed cleaners
within 24 hours and 225 within
4 days, and it continued to
recruit to meet the total staf昀椀ng
needs. The solution involved
attracting workers from noncleaning backgrounds and
providing onsite training,
demonstrating adaptability
during a time of crisis.

Brighton & Hove City Council
experienced a signi昀椀cant
surge in waste and recycling
demand with more of its
population at home either
shielding, furloughed, or
working from home. With 50%
of Cityclean staff on extended
leave (also shielding with
health vulnerabilities), Blue
Arrow’s e-recruitment platform
and 24/7 support team helped
rapidly source and place
temporary staff, ensuring
uninterrupted waste collection
services despite challenges
like social distancing
requirements. 160 tons of
additional waste was collected
in a 6-month period.
