BRENCHLEY PRE-SCHOOL - COPING WITH COVID-19
A
dapting to our new normal has been challenging,
however, the children have been amazing. They have
had to learn to stand in the squares dedicated to social
distancing prior to entering the preschool and then leaving
their parent at the door. They then know they have to have
their temperature taken and hands gelled before entering the
preschool.
Yes, things have changed, they no longer have access to
free flow play, access to all resources at any time, soft furnishings and cuddly
toys. Books and paper have to be left for 72 hours before reusing and all toys
have to be fully sanitized before they can use them again. The children have
been put into bubbles(small groups) and sometimes are with children they
wouldn’t have chosen to play with prior to lockdown. We have to cap the
numbers and some parents have chosen to keep their children safe at home.
There have been so many bonuses, more imaginative play has been observed
without the resources that lead to prescribed play. Children have made friends
with a variety of different children that maybe they wouldn’t have bonded with
before. Lots of activities such as cooking and arts and crafts have been rediscovered, sensory materials and other resources have been played with using
individual trays.
We are very lucky to have such a big open garden and the children have
spent many hours enjoying the freedom to run and play. We have even held a
mini sports day as our annual event had to be cancelled. Many positives have
been seen and we will carry them forward into September, first and foremost the
children are safe and happy and that is the main thing.
