Our health and that of our
environment
Sadly I believe that in time we will discover what a
detrimental e昀昀ect Plastic is having on our environment
and more importantly on Human health. It is already
known that Micro and Nano Plastic is getting into the food
chain. Nano Plastic is crossing the skin epithelia and
penetrating our digestive and respiratory systems. At this
stage we don’t know what the implications are for our
immune dysfunction, disrupted microbial metabolic
pathways.
We cannot undo history but we can all play our part in
reducing the e昀昀ects on unnecessary plastic waste in our
environment. We now understand the e昀昀ects on our
bodies of smoking and asbestos inhalation and even the
use of CFC’s on the environment. Society has now a grip
on these dangers and we collectively must take similar
action to Reduce Plastic.
So I strongly believe that Rotary must be a leader in
reducing the curse of plastic in the environment and do
everything we can to encourage and educate the
community in good practice.
