Dear John Olvey

husband's sudden death, finding
strength and purpose in rebuilding her
life."
World Oceans Week 2020 2.0
The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station is
a ship that sits on nearly two miles of ice
and moves thirty-three feet per year.
Winter is most of the year and darkness
sets in for months. During the winter it’s
cold with temperatures that can exceed
minus 100F and wind chill making it much
colder. Wayne L. White, a Rockport Texas
resident was the winter manager and
captain of that ship for 2017, 2019 and
2020. In 2020 Wayne produced a short
video for the Explorers Club of New York (of which he is a
member) for World Oceans Week. Danny Hampton, who was the
crew’s steward, shot the video and did the edits. For an amateur
production the final product sent north was well received.
Making a video under such extreme conditions has challenges
from the cold killing batteries and lighting to freezing body parts.
The outtakes are attached to this 2.0 version and may be more
entertaining than the video.
