enough, despite the 5-0 break. After one top
trump, Just play diamonds. Unbelievably, North
#23 went down. Nobody in 7}/S.
On to Session 2
Lots of slams making here. Only one of the 23
Easts in 6{ or 6NT received a heart lead, so
right-siding didn't seem to matter much.
Only five Easts made 4] here. Leading the {10
gives the defence a chance. Deep Finesse says
East has to duck that to make! Who am I to argue
with DF?
Lots of 6] here, five by West. Peter SCHMIDT
and John RIVERS achieved that against us after
a frisky 2] opening.
At last a non-slam.

That's the textbook auction. West has to lead a
low diamond at some stage to give the defence a
chance. The Australian style is not to make trial
