Enthusiasticallytaking every opportunity granted to him,he deployed to Afghanistan on 3 separateoccasions, all with other RIFLES battalions.Keen to maintain these regimental links,he was commuting to London to paradewith 7 RIFLES so when 8 RIFLES wasformed in 2017, he was quick to transfer.Leading a busy civilian life, John is theCompany Director and Head of Sales fora European strand of a large Americanbusiness providing safety products for theindustrial sector. A busy role, but he is stillable to make time for his Army Reservecareer, something he takes pride in.Cadet Company Serjeant Major JamieLofthouse joined E Company (WakefieldDetachment) Yorkshire North & West ArmyCadet Force in October 2014. He hasrepresented his Company in the NationalRIFLES Cadet Cup Competition, as wellas representing his Company in shooting,First Aid and orienteering competitionsat regional and national level. In January2020 Jamie became a 4 STAR ArmyProficiency Certificate (APC) qualifiedcadet and was promoted to CadetCompany Serjeant Major in March. Jamieis planning to join the Army in the future.Fred Adamson is a 101-year-old veteranwho served with the Kings Own YorkshireLight Infantry (KOYLI) during WWII. Prior tofighting in Europe, Fred served in Icelandfrom 1940-42. He landed on Gold Beachon D-Day and was involved in furiousfighting during the Battle of Normandy. Hefought through locations across France,Belgium, Holland and Germany and in1944 was wounded by shrapnel on theDutch and Belgium border. After the war inEurope ended, he also served in Italy andAustria. Fred was married to his wife for70 years and is an active member of theKOYLI Association.
