Cullum wanted to join the Army from
the age of 11 and now, at 18, he is
serving in 1st Battalion, The Rifles.
Born in Basingstoke, his family now
live in Winchester. In 2020 he took
the step and joined the army and he
has now been with the battalion for
5 months. Despite only having spent
a short time with 1 RIFLES, he has
already taken part in the shooting
competition where he was able to
test his marksmanship against his
fellow Riflemen. He has subsequently
deployed to Manchester as part of 1
RIFLES’ commitment to help tackle the
spread of the Coronavirus.
Robert joined the Reserve in 2019. He
chose to join B Company, 7 RIFLES to
get out and about. He has enjoyed his
training on Warrior Armoured Fighting
Vehicles which was made possible
because of the unique pairing of 5
and 7 RIFLES.
He finds the teamwork and good
humour to achieve a common goal
the most rewarding part of being a
Rifleman. This is very different from
his day job as a software developer,
where he works independently and
without such a great group of friends
around him.

Serjeant Eleanor Lancaster joined
Hampshire & IOW ACF in 2015
together with friends from school.
She took part in a wide range of
activities and particularly enjoyed
both field craft and First Aid. She was
promoted to Serjeant in 2019 and
was also team captain in The Rifles
Cadet Cup Competition. Eleanor
gained confidence and friendships
progressing through the syllabus
completing the 4-star APC. She was
appointed as the Mayor’s cadet for
Winchester, an appointment she
fulfilled to the highest standard.
