Lieutenant Ben Tomlinson joined the
Army in 2018 at the age of 23 and
commissioned into 1 RIFLES at the end
of the year. In June 2019 Ben deployed
on Op TORAL and joined his platoon in
Afghanistan.
Stirling joined the Reserves in 2004 and
after initial training deployed to Iraq. Since
then he deployed to Afghanistan on two
occasions and also completed several
Army courses including the challenging
Platoon Sergeants Battle Course at
Brecon. More recently Stirling, as a part
of 6 RIFLES, volunteered to work with the
United Nations force in Cyprus. During
his daily work he restores and preserves
armour. Once during rehabilitation,
following injury with the Reserves, he
conducted a placement at the Royal
Armouries, Leeds. Herefordshire is home
where he also finds time to be a parish
councillor.
Aside from an operational deployment,
whilst at 1 RIFLES, Ben has led
the battalion shooting team at the
divisional shooting competition. He
has accompanied buglers on a tour of
Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and has led
a scuba diving trip to Malta. Being based
in Chepstow, Ben is able to ret home
regularly to see family and friends.
