Cadet Corporal Ella McAlister joined
the ACF in 2016 aged 13 and has
been an enthusiastic cadet since. She
successfully completed the 35 mile
Ten Tors Challenge in 2018 where she
was Team Leader. She has gained two
BTEC’s via CVQO and is working on
another and is also working towards her
Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Ella has
been on several parades including The
Rifles’ Freedom of Christchurch and has
also acted as Standard Bearer. Within
the local community she has worked
with Christchurch Foodbank and Autism
Wessex and hopes to join the Army once
she leaves college.
At 15, Mick Jarrett joined the Devons and
Dorsets as an Infantry Junior leader. Just
over two years later, in 1963, he joined
the 1st Battalion, stationed in Plymouth.
His active career as a Regular Soldier
culminated in the rank of RSM. Mick
subsequently served as an Army recruiter,
supervising eight recruiting offices in the
South West, and spent his final ten years
of service with the Army Reserve as a
Permanent Staff Administration Officer
(PSAO) 4 D and D in Dorchester.
Mick retired from active service in
2008 and is actively involved with the
Regimental Association.
