Rifleman Grady Wright joined The Rifles
with aspirations to travel the world and
progress in both his military career and
in sport. Within the first few months of
joining 5 RIFLES Grady saw himself deploy
to Canada as safety staff for an overseas
exercise at the British Army Training
Unit Suffield (BATUS). While there, he
represented the BATUS 7’s Rugby team
in the Calgary stampede tournament and
shortly after returning, went on to ski
for the first time on Exercise FROSTED
BLADE. Grady skis for both the Battalion
and Infantry team and enjoys the sporting
opportunities afforded to him by the army.
Serjeant Jack Daniels is currently a
Platoon Commander with 6 RIFLES in
Plymouth. He recently deployed alongside
1 RIFLES on Op TORAL in Afghanistan and
has deployed on overseas exercises to
USA, Cyprus, Germany, France, Gibraltar
and Malta.
During the London 2012 Olympic Games,
Jack was mobilised to provide reassurance security. A keen Sportsman,
he represents the battalion for rugby and
football, which has included a tour of the
USA in 2013 and plays for and previously
co-managed the Infantry ice-hockey team.

lockdown. Through the ACF she has
earned a host of transferrable skills and
qualifications. She has represented
Devon at the ACF National Athletics
Championships on two occasions and
paraded at the Menin Gate in Ypres,
Belgium, and visited Auschwitz and
Birkenau in Poland. Outside of the ACF,
she is a Dementia Friends Champion,
volunteers at Derriford Hospital and is
currently working at Plymouth’s Regional
COVID-19 Test Centre while completing
her studies.
Typically, veterans of The Devonshire
and Dorset Regiment are naturally
strongly aligned to their county origins.
WO2 Steve Keane with more than 22
years’ service, who now lives in Exeter,
is pleased to be described as a Devon
Rifleman. He enjoyed a full and active
career, serving in Malta, Northern Ireland,
Cyprus, Belize, Germany and the UK. He is
actively involved in the veteran community
representing his County Regiment and
The Rifles at Civic events. He is also an
enthusiastic military historian who plans
and executes highly successful battlefield
tours for the Regimental Association.
