She led theBuckinghamshire ACF RIFLES Cup teamin 2019, with the team achieving thirdplace and RSM Burgham was awardedthe prestigious title of Best Cadet overall.In October 2019 Alice was appointed HerMajesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet for thecounty, an appointment she has fulfilled tothe highest standard.WO1 Ted Hawtin MMRSM 1st Buckinghamshire Battalion.Hometown: TwyfordWO1 ‘Ted’ Hawtin, the RegimentalSergeant Major of the 1st Bucks waswounded in the final stand of the Battalionat Hazebrouck in May 1940 and takenprisoner. During the battle he had beenseen dropping a hand grenade into one ofthe besieging tanks. Sent to a POW Campin Poland, together with a Polish officer, inJanuary 1944 Hawtin managed to escape.Helped by the Polish Resistance theyreached Danzig and hid in the hold of aSwedish collier. On arrival in Sweden theycontacted the British Legation and wereeventually flown back to the UK. For hisescape and his conduct at Hazebrouck,Hawtin was awarded the Military Medal.
