WHEREAS sixty years after the flight of Yuri Gagarin, there is no official universalinsignia for astronauts and cosmonauts who fly into space, andWHEREAS the Association of Space Explorers, the worldÕs only internationalassociation of astronauts and cosmonauts who have flown into Earth orbit andbeyond, represents the desire of the international community of space travelers toestablish a single, commonly-recognized insignia for all who fly into space, andWHEREAS the Association of Space Explorers has conceived, designed and approveda universal astronaut insignia,NOW THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED that all space travelers shall be eligible to displaya universal astronaut insignia and receive an individual placement of entry to spaceupon certification of spaceflight by a recognized launch provider. The insignia shallconsist of ascending and descending chevrons crowned with a 5-point star,representing the journey to space and the return to Earth. A circlet encompassing thechevrons shall be added to astronaut insignia awarded for flight into Earth orbit andbeyond, andIT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the Association of Space Explorers, exercising itshistorical role representing humanityÕs first emissaries to the stars, shall coordinatewith relevant international authorities and recognized launch providers to establishand curate an official, universal Registry of Space Travelers and to award astronautinsignia to eligible recipients.April 12, 2021Curated by the Association of Space Explorers (ASE), the universal Registry of SpaceTravelers is a composite register of all persons who have traveled to space. TheRegistry is indexed by order of individual spaceflight and includes orbital andsuborbital secondary indices.
