In 1940, the Sears department store adopted the
Silvertone brand name for all of their musical instruments.
1941 marked the first year you could get an electric sixstring in the Sears catalog. The selections were limited, but
the funky, eclectic styling and easy affordability made them
hugely popular with musicians. The electric guitar went
solid in the 1950’s, and Silvertone was right there in the
beginning. Just about every musical icon of the 60’s played
their first notes on Silvertone guitars. Jimi Hendrix named
his 1956 Silvertone “Betty Jean”, after his girlfriend. Bob
Dylan rocked a Silvertone 1319 in 1958 and can be heard
on Dylan’s 2006 release, “Modern Times”.
Silvertone reissue guitars have all the vibe and tone of the
original vintage models, but with upgraded features –
Better bridges, machine heads and neck joints – that make
them true professional instruments for players recording
and touring today.
