Join this facilitated session involving a panel of fellow GPs and family physicians, a 60-minute
professional forum showcasing the breadth of careers available through the general practice
specialisation.
While all GPs deliver comprehensive care covering the full breadth of patient demographics and case
presentations, many GPs develop expertise and skills in specific areas of general practice throughout
their career. The result is that GPs often craft unique careers within and alongside general practice,
exploring their own interests while meeting the specific needs of their community. GPs also often have
opportunities to get involved in advocacy, community development and leadership.
The panel will discuss their individual areas of specific interest within general practice: addiction
medicine, paediatric ADHD and custodial health. Delegates will hear how panellists discovered their
areas of interest, what their day-to-day role looks like and the impact on them and their communities.
This panel discussion will explore and celebrate GP careers, providing a unique and inspiring
opportunity for GPs and family physicians to reflect on their career journey, and reconnect with their
own continuing development as a practitioner, while encouraging early-career GPs to explore their
strengths, develop a sustainable career and have continued passion for their profession. There will be
a dedicated Q&A session at the end of the forum.
Presented by the RACGP GPiT (GPs in Training) and the RACGP Specific Interests faculties.
