Travel medicine: Challenges for primary care physicians

Travel medicine is one of the skills that every primary care provider should be familiar with in order to
protect and treat their patients exposed to different hazards during their travel, whether for work or
leisure. Our world is subjected to new challenges related to new diseases and epidemic infections,
the last one being the COVID -19 pandemic.

Our workshop will tackle different problems related to travel using a case-based scenario where a
case representing a travel-related disease or health problem will be presented followed by a discussion
that will lead to the diagnosis of the problem, how to prevent it and the best management for it.

The workshop will stress the vaccinations needed to protect our patients during their travel to the
different regions of our continent.
At the end of the workshop attendees should be able to:

prepare the patient before their travel
instruct patients on how to handle different health problems that they may encounter during
their travel
assess their patients after their return to keep them in good health and protect the community
from the invasion of new communicable infections transmitted by the patient.
