The primary objective of this article is to explore the effect of information support on treatment
adherence in patients with hypertension in primary care and analyse the ineffective reasons of
information support interventions. A mixed-method of interpretive sequences was used to design the
study. In the first phase, a randomised sample of 13 community health service centres was conducted
in Wuhou District, Chengdu; the second phase is a semistructured interview, which bases on the
Theoretical Domain Framework (TDF). After intervention, there was no statistically significant difference
in the change values between the two groups (P > 0.05), 68 patients with an increase in the total score
of MMAS-8 in the intervention group after the intervention, accounting for 73.12%, and 50 cases in
the control group, accounting for 56.18%, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05).
There was a statistically significant difference in the variation values of Items 1 and 7 of the MMAS-8
scale after intervention (P < 0.05). Knowledge, motivation and goals, memory, attention and decision
processes, and environmental and resource dimensions are the main barriers. Patient-related barriers
are insufficient knowledge of hypertension, access to free tests, older age and busyness; interventionrelated barriers are not participating in some interventions, insufficient frequency of interventions and a
lack of explanation of knowledge from doctors.
