ETA 2021 Strategic Plan - Flipbook - Page 8
Partners in Research
Challenges on the scale these Strategic
Initiatives represent can only be solved via
strong, synergistic partnerships. Federal and
state public-sector funding fuels the innovation
pipeline – from initial discovery to final product
delivery to the marketplace. The DOE and
other federal and state agencies like the CEC,
national labs, academia, and private industry
work together in close collaboration throughout
all parts of the process — from discovery to
prototype to product development to market
scale-up to market transformation. It is only
with these relationships that true gains can be
realized and taxpayer dollars can realize the
greatest return.
The National Labs, Industry
Engagement, and Academic
Partners
The DOE national labs are powerhouses
of prestige when it comes to science and
technology. They are home to world-renowned
researchers, powerful lasers, and ultra-fast
supercomputers. At Berkeley Lab, we work
collaboratively within this system of 17 labs,
aggressively pushing the limits of scientific
knowledge. In addition to those strong
collaborations, we have robust ties with
academia in California, across the nation,
and around the world. ETA has a special
relationship with UC, and is particularly close to
our colleagues at UC Berkeley. In addition, we
regularly partner with other UC campuses and
other academic institutions across the country.
Across a portfolio of
research articulated
in our 2017 Plan, ETA
has also worked with
more than 380 industry
partners to help transfer
those technologies and
demonstration projects
into scalable market
solutions. We look
forward to growing these
partnerships in support
of our new Initiatives.
