a. Focus Group input
Focus group attendees added their thoughts on what they would recommend promoting living wage
work:
▪
Universal income for every American. Paid time off for everyone working mandatory. Flex
work schedules to allow people to maintain employment. Paid maternity and paternity leave
for everyone. On job training for people to be able to access employment, paid trade school.
Living wage that is over the 200% poverty line of a family of four with COLA adjustments.
▪
"The reality is that wages are not at a living wage level. Barriers for wage increases include
hardships on employers to pay a worthy wage due to lack of funding sources. Increasing
programs’ eligibility to match the child care 300% would help families stretch their earnings
without penalties.=
▪
Continue to advocate for higher wages.
▪
Living wage is the top issue. We need a more formal definition, as the calculators are flawed
(quarter cost for rent/doesn't match reality). What does one person need to earn to live in our
community? We need better system to determine this figure accurately.
