Figure 2D below shows the correlation between the four self-identified financial status groups and seven
select negative events that are common among people with lower incomes. Not surprisingly, there is a
direct relationship between being better off than three years ago and fewer negative impacts, and
between being worse off and experiencing more of the negatives. Borrowing money from friends or
family is a common strategy for making ends meet among all groups. For service providers, it is important
