3. The Strengths of our Community
No community is simply the sum of its challenges or risk factors, nor is the absence of a low level of risk
factors a sufficient proxy for a community9s protective factors. We have talked a lot about our
community9s challenges in this Community Profile section of the needs assessment. We will end with our
strengths.
Focus Group: FRC Advisory Committee
• A number of resources available, a lot of beautiful outdoor space, access to Finger Lakes region,
groups and organizations that are networked, like the Family Resource Centers. Hospitals
connected larger medical facilities with research. Access to quality food in more urban centers.
Focus Group: Youth Program Participants
• "Being able to go to school because the bus goes really far and it's a public school so that's good
and you don't have to pay that much I think.
• Also, the program is pretty good as well. I forgot that was one of things I could talk about.
• Also, there is a lot of sports you can do in school, things for after school, summer camps.
• They call it summer camp, but it's really summer school.
• Camp is where you are supposed to have fun!
• Pokémon go locations where you can get the big things.
• Playgrounds.
• Music shop.
• Trunk or Treat.
• Music in the Park.
• The Fair.
• Dunkin9 Donuts.
• We need to do more Trunk or Treats.
• We have a whole bunch of Dollar Generals.
• Tops.
• Rock Candy at Tractor Supply.
