During the past two years of the pandemic, what has changed for children who are in kindergarten through
6th grade in Pro Action's service area?
▪ Everything...loss
of loved ones, lack of
structure, reduced access to basic needs, food
insecurities and less healthy options, higher
incidences of neglect/abuse and witnessing
impacts of higher stress levels, substance use,
etc. in the household, reduced
academic/social/emotional development,
increased anxiety, increased bullying.
▪ Children
less prepared for kindergarten due to
COVID.
▪ I believe
these children have fallen behind with
academics due to virtual learning.
▪ Many
children [and families] have more access
to internet as there have been grants to make it
more affordable to families due to the
pandemic.
Youth (middle and high school age): With youth shut in and secluded at a developmental stage that
compels them to focus on relationships with peers,
