WHAT PRO ACTION NEEDS TO BE READY TO DO
The respondents’ predictions, fears, and hopes give Pro Action a sense of what’s ahead. Here is a
sampling of their thoughts about how Pro Action needs to prepare.
▪ Pro Action needs to be ready to lose a lot of families who don't meet income qualifications
anymore.
▪ I think we need to be ready for an influx of people needing help to pay for their basic needs. We
need to be ready for people who are discouraged and ready to give up.
▪ Pro Action needs to be ready for the realization of the widespread mental health impacts that
COVID has had on the community.
▪ I think we need to continue to partner with other organizations and to expand opportunities for
education that will move people into living-wage jobs.
▪ Pro Action should be ready for homelessness and hunger, not only affecting seniors but also for
young families too.
▪ We need to be able to help with food insecurities by partnering with local food banks again and
advocating for more inclusive bus transportation, and possibly the Wheels for Work program to
assist with emergency gas cards for getting to work.
▪ One area in which Pro Action might be able to improve access is in the number of farmers
markets that accept Farmer's Market Coupons (FMC) when fruits and vegetables are in season.
The biggest complaint we receive about the FMC Program is that [there are] not enough
vendors, including open air markets, [that] take the coupons, and then when transportation is not
available on the weekends, those that do take them are inaccessible for those without a car."
▪ We need to be ready to face children and families who have been experiencing isolation for the
past two years.
▪ We need to establish more protective factors so that children can have resiliency in hard times.
▪ Pro Action needs to be ready for helping families with children that are having challenging
behaviors.
▪ Pro Action needs to be ready for a surge of emotional and social needs of preschoolers.
▪ I think we need to be ready for working with more children who do not have many social
experiences with other similar-aged children, especially since many of the children coming into
our programs in the coming years were born during or shortly before the pandemic began.
▪ Pro Action needs to be ready for an increased number of children coming into the program with
a high level of needs/disabilities and the need for one-on-one assistance in classrooms for
children who cannot participate on an individual functioning level
▪ I think we need to partner with schools to teach high school students about budgeting, saving,
investing, banking - and all the "money stuff.=
▪ I think we need to transition slowly to more electronic communications with the next generation
of seniors that are more familiar with e mail, cell phones and text messaging.
▪ Need to be ready for a large group of single seniors who don't have family close by to help who
want to stay in their homes and not get moved to apartment living or assisted living.
▪ Pro Action should be prepared to better partner with non-traditional groups to meet the
community need(s) as they happen.
▪ I believe more needs to be done to reach out to families who may be eligible and not realize it.
▪ Pro Action should be ready to do more outreach and promotion of services and supports
available to assist those in need.
