Beliefs/Expectations
• Honestly, I don't think any of it will matter until people come to terms with their internalized
racism/sexism/homophobia etc. Attempts to impose fairer, more equitable policies and standards may
succeed through sheer brute force but will, in my opinion, result in a kind of resentful grumbling that
will only widen gaps between the privileged and the less privileged. So, along with changes to policies
and practices, the culture must be addressed, via increased emphasis on access to communities unlike
the majority&, to arts that reflect broader swathes of people and ideas, and a commitment on the part of
us who want change to model appropriate behavior - and, more importantly, to stand up and speak out
when others model inappropriate behavior&. We must all commit to doing better.
Decision-making
• We need better quality political representation. We need educated and determined individuals that
prioritize the need for cultural responsiveness in their community.
• Include people served in the design and provision of services.
