• Educate staff, give them experiences to see that someone who needs help isn't someone who is taking
advantage of the system.
• I believe there should be a no-tolerance policy toward biases - gender, race, religion, etc. In a country
that was built on a "melting pot," diversity should be embraced. However, in most instances that is not
the case. You are not born with prejudice of any kind, prejudice is a learned behavior.
• The most important change to policies and practices that would reduce unfair treatment and make
access to services, housing, jobs, education more fair is consistency. If something is good and accessible
to one person, it needs to be good and accessible to another.
• Education and advocacy for what is right and for systemic changes. Going to communities or pockets
where underserved groups are to learn more about their experiences and ask what needs to be in place
for you to be treated fairly and allow them to access services or employment. Use this data to drive our
policies and procedures.
