▪ Pro Action is leading the effort and continuing the work in the community, and we need to continue to
embed trauma-informed practices in all our work. We still have much work to do, and by educating
others including those we serve, we can support the work of being a self-healing community.
Community Partner Survey results about trauma-informed care
On the Community Partner Survey, many of our colleagues voiced support and encouragement for our
work around trauma-informed care, and we truly appreciate this. (See sidebar.) In addition, they offered
some assessments about what is happening in the community around trauma-informed care and ways it
could be improved.
▪ We have a new generation of children and teens who have been adversely affected, mentally and
emotionally, from the COVID-19 pandemic and masks. It is imperative we focus on them and services
which can help them overcome.
▪ There is a lot of talk about trauma-informed care and behaviors in our community and beyond right
now, but I think every single one of us is deeply traumatized, and all the resources available across the
country amount to little more than a Band-aid that is unequal to
seriously addressing any of it.
FROM THE COMMUNITY
▪ There truly needs to be more mental health services offered. We

struggle being able to find providers who can see individuals
more often than once a month, after being on a waitlist for 6
months.
"I am impressed with how
▪ I think the awareness of the topic has greatly improved in our
region.
▪ I don't see any real support for trauma put in place.
▪ Access to counseling services of the family's choice [could be
improved]. Services shouldn't be limited depending on income.
▪ I think the virtual access to counseling services has been a
tremendous help to those who need that service. I do not think
there is enough awareness around what trauma is and how to
seek assistance if one is struggling.
▪ The mental health services are nearly non-existent, wait lists a
month long for virtual appointments. Many folks get medication
but no actual treatment to move them along in a healing process.
▪ In my work as a leadership coach, I work with high functioning
members of society, and yet, these people are often the walking
wounded. It9s important to acknowledge that traumatized people
don9t fit a particular mold. Also, I believe providing people with
more physical/somatic solutions focused on reversing the
traumatic effects, versus just coping with them, is essential.
▪ It [the region9s response to trauma] is good.
▪ It's never enough for a variety of reasons- the county is in
desperate need for free mobile mental health that will begin
treatment until long-term support can be established.
