B. Service Capacity and Service Coordination
As mentioned earlier, lack of coordination of services was the third most highly ranked barrier to services
by our community partners. Members of our focus groups took a look at coordination of services in our
area and discussed barriers to coordination as well as what would help improve it. Their comments
appear throughout this section.
There are many barriers to service coordination. Different funding streams force services into silos for the
sake of the bureaucracies9 needs. Privacy laws can restrict information-sharing, especially when there is
medical or mental health information of any kind involved.
