Three people provided answers to the question about youth and opioid use.

Experimentation with other substances - seeing that it's the norm in their environment or what they
have been conditioned to think (vaping, alcohol, etc.).
More kids are smoking marijuana now that it is "legal," even if it is not legal for them.
Same as always. Poorer grades, less food security, less parental guidance provided
Young Adults: Primary Mental Health Problems
Eleven people felt knowledgeable enough about young adults to offer their thoughts and checked off an
average of 4.4 multiple-choice answers. Again, depression, anxiety, and trauma top the list.

I have worked with many individuals who we have housed in emergency housing that have passed
away by overdose&. I do feel like it is getting worse.
I would imagine the use increased to compensate for lack of human contact, not attending school
for a while in person, loss of activities due to pandemic.
Experimentation in substances leading to other higher-risk behaviors and overdoses.
I've seen a handful of very sad situations where individuals do not see a problem with their use.
[Opioid use among young adults is] Very common.
I have seen their attempts for resiliency plummet when facing loss of individuals who have been
their support or who they have supported.
Young adults I have worked with have shared their grief of friends and support group members passing
away from overdose.
